What to expect from Executive coaching
Coaching is a process that aims to improve performance and focuses on the ‘here and now’ rather than on the distant past or future.
The essence of coaching is:
- To help a person change in the way they wish and enable them go in the direction they want to go
- To build awareness, empower choice and lead to change
- To support a person at every level in becoming who they want to be
Unlike training or mentoring where the emphasis is on the trainer or mentor imparting their knowledge to you, coaching focuses on helping the thinker to take responsibility and ownership for identifying their own goals, assessing their own strengths and areas for development and identifying their own solutions for moving forwards.
This is achieved by the coach providing a safe, creative and non-judgemental space, asking questions and listening to help the thinker explore, reflect and make decisions. Developmental coaching will normally be carried out over a series of sessions (6-10), with the thinker deciding on their own goals and development areas for the coaching. Session topics are agreed with the coach, with the thinker setting out the order of priority.

How I work
I work with individual leaders, often in senior roles and enable them to explore their authentic leadership style, overcome challenges and adapt how they show up to be more effective
As an accredited Master Executive and Team Coach with the Association for Coaching, I partner with leaders to co-create a thinking space, raising self-awareness through conversation, supportive challenge and encouraging self-reflection.
I see coaching as a partnership to enable others to discover new thinking about themselves, their work and personal and professional development. I see this as a journey we travel together, agreeing the direction and focus as we go.
I work systemically, meaning I hold the entire organisational and wider context in mind, recognising that people don’t work in a vacuum, and are impacted by their environment. I act as a facilitator, encouraging self-reflection through a wide variety of coaching styles and techniques, to enable deep thinking. In sessions I use deep listening and reflective observation to explore your current focus. We hold the outcomes in mind recognising the executive context changes at speed and goals are the starting point only.
In each session we create actions using a non-directive approach, with me providing context, observation and feedback as needed. I have a flexible, relational coaching style and I work at the transformational rather than the transactional end of coaching. Together we partner to create a thinking space where you feel safe to explore your beliefs, behaviours, patterns and your work enabling you to stretch your thinking and skills, and enable better outcomes.
